prop 8 protest

On November 4th Californians voted to limit the LGBTQI community's civil rights by taking away their right to marry. Unfortunately this was a result of churches pushing hate down the throats of their followers, a lack of education among Californians (and Americans), and a lack of in-your-face action throughout the nation on the part of the gay community. What we needed was a rally, a protest. Something nation-wide and news-worthy. Something like the following, which occured on Saturday, November 15th. These photos are of San Francisco's response to Prop 8, just one city among hundreds across the United States participating in the Marriage Equality protests.

PS - Go see the movie Milk. It is amazing, and really shows what was needed to beat Prop 8.

In front of San Francisco's city hall, downtown.

I met up with my classmate Bryn (left) and some of his friends.

Cute family.

Even dogs know what's up.

Vaginas gigantes.

Yes on Prop 8 = 52%, No on Prop 8 = 48%. What the hell California?

Bryn and Darcy get interviewed by some friends. They made me get interviewed too.

Bryn and Darcy, best friends.

Bryn and myself, classmates and friends.

One of the speakers. We were too far away to hear anything.

My favorite sign there.

Gay Statue of Liberty.

On our way to march through the city streets.

From Civic Center to Castro & Market, and back.

This guy told me he's worn the dress before. I believe him. He added the orange reflectors just for this rally though. What a sweetie.

His shirt, if you can even call it that, says, "Controversy". I'd say so.

Stopping traffic along Market.

Seriously, what IS it to you?

After the rally and march I was exhausted and dehydrated, but being the busy lady that I am, I had yet another thing to do. I headed to the Museum of the African Diaspora to do research for a paper on African Americans and the Civil Rights Movement. This guy was outside using chalk to recreate a painting displayed in the museum.

murder, she wrote

My friends Andrea, Ashley, Brooke and I went on a girls' weekend trip to Mendocino, CA. We stayed at the Blair House, backdrop of the show Murder, She Wrote featuring Angela Lansbury. Andrea and Ashley are huge fans of Angela, and Brooke and I didn't mind indulging them. The weather was perfect, the scenery beautiful, and the locals crazy.

Meet Andrea. Visual definition of fancy free.

Meet Ashley, our driver. She and Andrea are sisters. They have been an important part of my life since I was a toddler in watermellon-print overalls.

Meet Brooke. We became friends a couple years ago and I love being around her. She's my loyal gym buddy.

Wolf wine.

Cute, cuuuute stray kitties.

They didn't like us too much.

Welcome to Mendocinooooo!
